Muleteers will be waiting there with the horses ready to leave. Enlistment of load, transported by mules and beginning of the first day on horseback towards "Manantiales".
Once on the mounts we start the walk next to the pack mules which will carry the provisions of the expedition. We will be surrounded by big open spaces, by mountains covered with snow, by narrow passes of roaring rivers and by green grasslands. The highest peaks of the Andes show up blurred in the horizon like impressing scenery. With no paths, railroad tracks or high voltage lines. Just silence. At night we will camp near a beautiful and cold stream, with great torrents and waterfalls. Some animals surround the area. The group join the muleteers to look for wood to prepare a delicious charcoal-grilled "asado". Distance/time of walk: approx. 5hs. Height above sea level: El Peñon 2,900m. |

El Peñón- Paso de la Honda- Rancho de Lata
The fourth day will be the most intense of the expedition. We will go upriver where a roaring torrent goes down trough a narrow pass. (Las Leñas river). After lunch, we continue walking and the path becomes increasingly rocky. The horses enter the river above the slippery rocks with an incredible security about themselves. Going trough the Cuesta de la Honda (Cordón del Espinacito), we pass trough a great col at an altitude of 4,300mts. Suddenly, a vast valley with magnificent and impressing colours appears on the other side. At night, the balmy flames of a campfire keep the members of the expedition warm, while the guide prepares a delicious and comforting Andean dish. Distance / Time of walk: approx. 8hs.Height above sea level: Rancho de Lata 3,350mts |

Rancho de Lata- Valle de Los Patos
The next day the ride continues. The highest mountain of America, the Aconcagua hill, rises before the astonished look of the observers. After crossing the hills of Yeso it is possible to reach the imposing "Valle de los Patos", place where the camp will take place, next to Los Patos river, near the National Gendarmerie Shelter "Ingeniero Sardinas".
This valley, magnificent for its dimensions, its luxuriant green grasslands is defined as one of the most beautiful valleys in the world, since tranquillity, silence and the warm weather make of it the ideal place for resting after the tiring ride. Distance / Time of walk: approx. 5hs. Height above sea level: Valle de los Patos 2,650 mts. |

Valle de Los Patos
The 6th day is reserved for resting. Walks by the surrounding areas will be made to reconnoitre the indigenous flora and fauna, to interpret the topographic maps in charge of the guide of the expedition. Going up river, taking our rod or just a fishing line with lead and hook, we reach a place where the river is full of trouts, ready to bite. It is possible to fish more than ten small trouts in half an hour. We will take them to prepare dinner. |

Valle de Los Patos- International Border- La Lagunita
When the ride continues towards the west, the group will reach the valley of "Volcán" river, it is possible to see the Aconcagua hill from there. After a three-day ride and a one-day rest we are near the border with Chile.
The Chilean horses are waiting for us from the Chilean side in the middle of the enormous mountains of the Andes. They are saddled and ready to leave and continue the trip to the next camp. Here, our staff of Chilean muleteers and guides will be in charge of the expedition while the Argentinean muleteers and horses come back to the point of origin.
We change horses because they are not allowed to cross the border. We pass through some cliffs and the hillsides of a mountain at 3,000mts to reach the first Chilean camp. Then we descend following the course of Rocim river, to the border police of Chile, where customs and migratory inspections will be made. If we look back from that place it is possible to watch a fantastic valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. If we look ahead we will see an exuberant valley with green grasslands full of flowers and narrow trickles of water. After camping we enjoy a welcoming dinner to Chile with a traditional menu.
